WELCOME!

This is a belated "welcome" to anyone from the Avon Walk and the Curves - New Brunswick.

If you want to make a comment about any of my posts, please click on the link that reads "Tut-tut, it looks like rain" at the bottom of each and fill out the form; you don't need to leave all your information, but I'd appreciate it if you did. They're not labelled clearly since I'm so used to customizing my comments that I forgot that everyone isn't as web-savvy as I am. It's my youthful nearsightedness and I do apologize. If they're a little slow, don't panic and try them again later.

If you'd like to make an online donation to my fundraising campaign, click the link at the right that reads "My Avon Walk Page". . . you can also read more about why it was so important that I walk this year, as opposed to any other year.

Lastly, please feel free to contact me via e-mail or AOL instant messenger, using either link on the right. I can't guarantee I'll be on AIM, but I will always reply to your e-mails.

Keep up the great work and thank you in advance for your support!

Training

On Sunday, I've got plans to team up with a walking group in NYC. The total route is going to be approximately 10 miles, at a pace of about 3-4 mph.

I'm very excited for this first test, especially considering the fact that I've never timed or really tried to gauge the distance of my walks before, but I believe I will be able to do this. . . or at least half of it.

I have to remember to stretch and to listen to my body. . .I'm inclined to tough it out, but that leads to injury and crankiness! I'm also planning to do some yoga after I get home to soothe any angry muscles.

Countdown to the Event: 239 days.
Fundraising total: 25% ($455) . . . I don't have an official deadline for pledges yet, but I'm trying my very best to have all of them in by September 15th.

Update

I spoke to Mary last night and she sounds like she's doing well. She got GREAT news from her breast surgeon - the lymph test came back negative, so she won't have to face chemo or radiation because the cancer hadn't spread.

Hooray! That's good news!

She's got some heavy-duty pain meds and some sleeping pills to keep her comfortable, plus she's got her family and friends checking in on her for support. I plan to send her some fancy chocolates for Valentine's Day, along with a card to make her smile and an angel pin. The angel is carrying a rose, so I think her devotion to St. Therese will be bolstered - if you find a rose in an unusual way (and I think this is pretty unusual, don't you?) your prayers have been answered. Or she's put in a good word for you with the Almighty.

Either way, it's positive thinking. . . speaking of which, I have another tea-quote:

There are no good things; there are no bad things, but thinking makes it so.

Training

Despite the rain, which brings with it 40-degree weather (that, oddly enough, feels downright balmy compared to last week's Arctic blast!), I was able to get an intense half-hour workout at the gym and a new potential donation.

Of course, I shouldn't forget about the potential for a donation from my gym's owner, who is a survivor herself! I have a feeling that we might be able to work together to create a fundraising event as well . . . maybe a month of "pennies for pounds" or something like that, or even something passive, like a collections jar.

At any rate, I have a great group of supporters so far. . . let's keep going!

P.S. - Here's a picture from last year's event:

There's No Place Like Home. . .

Mary was able to go home yesterday!

Hooray Mary!

She's still got a lot of healing and resting to do, but she'll be just fine. . . because now she's got her family and friends with her as a full-time thing. This will work wonders for her.

And her brothers are helping me so much with my fundraising campaign for the Avon Walk, because they believe it's good for her morale. . .as far as I'm concerned, anything that's good for her morale is helping her heal that much more quickly.
